PlainlyOS Terms of Service
Last Updated: August 30, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of PlainlyOS ("PlainlyOS," "we," "us," or the "Service"). By creating an account and accepting these Terms, you agree to be bound by them and by our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use PlainlyOS.
1. What PlainlyOS Does
PlainlyOS is an informational tool that uses artificial intelligence to help users understand documents by:
- explaining documents in simpler language;
- highlighting potentially important information;
- identifying dates, amounts, obligations, and other document details;
- performing calculations based on information contained in documents;
- suggesting questions or possible next steps;
- comparing documents;
- and generating draft responses based on document content.
PlainlyOS is designed to help users better understand information. It does not replace the original document or qualified professional advice.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live, to create an account and use PlainlyOS.
By using PlainlyOS, you represent that you are legally permitted to use the Service and agree to these Terms.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your PlainlyOS account and your login credentials.
You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account.
If you believe someone has accessed your account without permission, contact PlainlyOS as soon as reasonably possible.
4. Your Documents
You retain ownership of documents and other content you upload to PlainlyOS.
PlainlyOS does not claim ownership of your uploaded documents.
By uploading a document, you give PlainlyOS permission to process that document only as reasonably necessary to operate, provide, maintain, secure, and improve the features of the Service in accordance with these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
This may include extracting text, analyzing document contents, generating summaries, identifying important information, performing calculations, comparing information, and generating responses requested by you.
You represent that you have the legal right and authorization to upload any document you submit.
5. Information You Must Not Upload
PlainlyOS is not intended to receive certain categories of highly sensitive or specially regulated information.
Do not upload documents containing:
- Social Security numbers or equivalent government identification numbers;
- passwords;
- authentication codes;
- account recovery codes;
- API keys;
- private encryption keys;
- security-question answers;
- login credentials;
- complete credit-card numbers;
- complete debit-card numbers;
- payment-card security codes;
- classified government information;
- information you obtained illegally;
- information you are prohibited by law, court order, contract, security obligation, or confidentiality agreement from sharing;
- confidential documents belonging to another person or organization unless you are authorized to provide them.
Unless PlainlyOS expressly confirms in writing that such use is supported, you must also not upload protected health information ("PHI") subject to HIPAA or other specially regulated healthcare information.
If a document contains information that should not be uploaded, you are responsible for removing or redacting that information before submitting the document.
This list is not exhaustive. You are responsible for determining whether you are legally permitted to upload a document.
6. Artificial Intelligence
PlainlyOS uses artificial intelligence and automated systems.
AI systems can make mistakes.
PlainlyOS does not guarantee that any:
- summary;
- calculation;
- deadline;
- amount;
- interpretation;
- comparison;
- recommendation;
- answer;
- generated response;
- or suggested next step
is accurate, complete, current, or appropriate for your particular circumstances.
You should compare important information generated by PlainlyOS with the original document.
If there is a conflict between PlainlyOS's output and the original document, you should rely on the original document and seek appropriate assistance when necessary.
7. No Professional Advice
PlainlyOS does not provide legal, medical, tax, accounting, investment, financial, insurance, or other licensed professional advice.
PlainlyOS's outputs are provided for informational and organizational purposes.
You should consult an appropriately qualified professional before relying on PlainlyOS for matters involving significant legal rights, medical treatment, taxes, investments, insurance coverage, major financial obligations, government benefits, court proceedings, regulatory requirements, or other high-consequence matters.
8. High-consequence Decisions
Do not rely solely on PlainlyOS for:
- emergencies;
- medical decisions;
- legally binding deadlines;
- court filings;
- regulatory submissions;
- tax filings;
- financial transactions;
- investment decisions;
- insurance coverage decisions;
- or other decisions where an incorrect AI response could cause significant harm.
PlainlyOS may help you understand information, but you remain responsible for reviewing the original document and determining what action to take.
9. Privacy Between PlainlyOS Users
Documents saved to your PlainlyOS account are intended to be private to your account and are not intended to be visible to other PlainlyOS users.
PlainlyOS uses access controls intended to prevent one user from accessing another user's saved documents.
No security system can guarantee absolute security. Additional information about how PlainlyOS processes and protects information is provided in our Privacy Policy.
10. Service Providers and AI Processing
PlainlyOS uses third-party infrastructure and service providers to operate the Service.
Depending on the feature being used, service providers may assist with:
- hosting;
- data storage;
- authentication;
- document processing;
- artificial intelligence processing;
- communications;
- security;
- and other technical functions necessary to operate PlainlyOS.
These providers may process information on PlainlyOS's behalf as necessary to provide their services.
Additional information is available in our Privacy Policy.
11. Document Storage
PlainlyOS attempts to minimize the amount of document information it retains while maintaining useful Service functionality.
PlainlyOS may retain document information, structured analysis, limited supporting evidence, document metadata, and other information necessary to provide requested features.
PlainlyOS does not represent that uploaded information is end-to-end encrypted or protected using a zero-knowledge architecture.
12. Deleting Documents
PlainlyOS allows you to request deletion of saved documents and associated application data through available account controls.
When you delete a document, PlainlyOS removes application-level information that it can delete through the systems available to PlainlyOS.
Some information may remain temporarily or otherwise persist within third-party platform-managed:
- backups;
- storage systems;
- logs;
- security systems;
- deletion queues;
- disaster-recovery systems;
- or other retention mechanisms.
PlainlyOS therefore does not promise that deletion results in immediate or cryptographic destruction of every copy of information.
We will not describe information as permanently destroyed unless we can reasonably verify that destruction.
13. Acceptable Use
You may not use PlainlyOS to:
- violate applicable law;
- harm or threaten another person;
- upload material you do not have permission to provide;
- attempt to access another user's account or documents;
- interfere with or disrupt PlainlyOS;
- circumvent security controls;
- distribute malware;
- misuse PlainlyOS to commit fraud;
- impersonate another person;
- use AI-generated material to intentionally deceive others;
- or otherwise misuse the Service.
14. Intellectual Property
PlainlyOS and its associated software, designs, interfaces, branding, and other proprietary material are owned by PlainlyOS or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
These Terms do not transfer ownership of PlainlyOS's technology to you.
You retain ownership of your own documents and content.
15. Third-Party Services
PlainlyOS depends on third-party services and infrastructure.
Third-party services may experience interruptions, security incidents, outages, changes, or failures outside PlainlyOS's direct control.
PlainlyOS does not guarantee the continuous availability of third-party services.
Our use of service providers does not change the privacy commitments PlainlyOS makes in these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
16. Service Availability
PlainlyOS is provided on an "as available" basis.
We may modify, update, add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features when reasonably necessary.
We do not guarantee that PlainlyOS will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every document.
17. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PlainlyOS is provided "as is" and "as available."
PlainlyOS disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and other warranties to the extent permitted by law.
PlainlyOS does not guarantee:
- that AI output will be accurate;
- that every document will be processed successfully;
- uninterrupted availability;
- that every security threat can be prevented;
- or that PlainlyOS will meet every user's particular needs.
Some jurisdictions do not permit certain warranty exclusions, so some of these provisions may not apply to you.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PlainlyOS and its service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages resulting from your access to or use of the Service.
PlainlyOS is not responsible for decisions made solely in reliance on AI-generated output.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
This section should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public commercial launch.
19. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless PlainlyOS from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising from:
- documents or information you upload without authorization;
- your violation of these Terms;
- your violation of applicable law;
- or your misuse of the Service.
This provision should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public commercial launch.
20. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using PlainlyOS at any time.
PlainlyOS may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary, including if we believe an account:
- violates these Terms;
- presents a security risk;
- is being used fraudulently;
- is being used illegally;
- or threatens other users or the Service.
21. Changes to These Terms
PlainlyOS may update these Terms as the Service changes.
The "Last Updated" date will identify the current version.
For material changes, PlainlyOS may require users to review and accept an updated version before continuing to use certain features.
22. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms will be governed by the laws of:
[GOVERNING STATE]
without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Any required venue, arbitration, jury-waiver, class-action waiver, or other dispute-resolution provisions should be added only after review by qualified legal counsel.
23. Privacy Policy
The PlainlyOS Privacy Policy explains how PlainlyOS collects, processes, stores, protects, shares, and deletes information.
The Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms.
By accepting these Terms, you acknowledge that you have read and understood them, agree to the PlainlyOS Privacy Policy, and understand that PlainlyOS uses artificial intelligence that may produce inaccurate or incomplete results.
